Art ‘Villages’ Unite: Artistic Expression Transforms Our Public Space
August 2nd, 2014 1-4pm at Creativity Explored
Panelists: Casey Gray, Hannah Ireland, Jen Stark, Zio Ziegler
Moderated by Rene de Guzman, Senior Curator at the Oakland Museum of California
From conceptual artists within the academy to self-taught street artists, the artist community is as varied in its ecology of villages as any other discipline. More often than not, these “villages” of artists work independently of one another and occasionally battle over resources as market forces and current tastes dictate who gets funding and what for. While art budgets continue to shrink, and new media for expression debut everyday, this struggle for existence is as alive today as it has ever been. There are a few projects, however, that are able to unite the villages, and remind everyone of the simple power art has to transform our daily lives. What is it about taking over public space and democratizing the platform for expression that excites these different groups and aligns them with a common purpose?
Please join us Saturday, August 2nd from 1 pm - 4pm at Creativity Explored as Rene de Guzman, Senior Curator of Art at OMCA, speaks with four Art City Project presenting artists on their experiences.
